Nouns

名词

A noun is a word that refers to a person, an animal, a place or a thing.

名词是代表人、动物、地方或东西的词。

e.g.

Person     人	girl, teacher, driver,  uncle
Animal   动物	butterfly, elephant, hen, kangaroo
Place      地方	school, market, village, lake
Thing     东西	clock, banana, money, fork

There are generally three classes of nouns:

名词一般可分成三类：

•  a common noun is a common name shared by a class of the same kind;

   普通名词是一组相同的物件共同的名称：

        e.g.

            country, watermelon, camel, doctor

• a proper noun is the name of a particular person, animal , place or thing;

     专有名词是一个人、动物、地方或东西专有的名称：

        e.g.

            Martin, Garfield, Malaysia, Proton Wira

    * The first letter of proper nouns are written using   

      capital letters.

   专有名词的第一个字母必须大写。

• a collective noun refers to a group of things that is regarded as one.

     集合名词指一组被视为整体的物件：

            e.g.

            a class of pupils

            a crate of fruits

            a flock of birds
