Countable + Uncountable Nouns

可数名词和不可数名词

Countable nouns are things that can be counted.
可数名词指可以计算的东西。

e.g.
cards, penguins, papayas

Uncountable nouns are things that cannot be counted.
不可数名词指不可以计算的东西。

e.g.
oil, music, rubbish

A few, several, many and a large number of are used with countable nouns.
A few, several, many 和 a large number of 用于可数名词。

e.g.
The hungry boy ate a few pieces of cake.
Many cars are stuck in the massive traffic jam.

A little, much, a large amount of and a great deal of are used with uncountable nouns.
A little, much, a large amount of 和 a great deal of 用于不可数名词。

e.g.
There is a little milk left in the bottle.
A large amount of water was used to clean the house.

Some, a lot of and plenty of can be used with both countable and uncountable nouns.
Some, a lot of 和 plenty of 可用于可数名词和不可数名词。

e.g.
I need some reference books for my revision.
Add some salt in the porridge.

Any can also be used for both countable and uncountable nouns. It is usually used in negative sentences and questions.
Any 也可用于可数名词和不可数名词。它通常用于否定句和疑问句。

e.g.
I don't have any money left after buying the pair of shoes.
Do you have any questions to ask?
